A 12-Inch Cast Iron Skillet and Some New Features

Our Next Product: A 12-Inch Cast Iron Skillet!

Hello fans of our 10.5-inch cast iron skillet! It’s been awhile since we last posted on the blog so we wanted to fill everyone in on what’s been happening.

Our new headquarters in Allentown, PA is up and running and has been serving us well. We’ve been hard at work improving our facility and growing our team to increase output and cut down wait times. We can’t thank everyone enough for their patience and support through the process.

As some of you may have seen on social media, we’re pleased to officially announce that our next product will be a 12-inch cast iron skillet. A lot of you have been asking for a larger skillet and we heard you loud and clear. This skillet will have all your favorite features from our 10.5-inch skillet, except… you know… bigger!

A larger cooking surface means you can invite more friends over to show off your cooking skills. Or, if you’re a lousy cook, you can invite them over just to admire your beautiful empty skillet.

To give you an idea of the size, you can see the 10.5-inch cast iron skillet nested inside a 3D-printed prototype of the 12-inch skillet here:

All the meticulous planning, testing, designing and redesigning that went into our very first cast iron skillet will also go into this one. Just because we nailed the design with the first skillet doesn’t mean it’s a copy/paste job for the next one. We want to exceed expectations. No sophomore slump for us! Since we do have some serious development work ahead of us, we cannot put an exact ETA on this 12-inch bad boy quite yet, but we do anticipate having it available for purchase later this year. We’ll keep you updated on our progress.

The 10.5-Inch Cast Iron Skillet Gets a Facelift

In addition to working on the development of the 12-inch cast iron skillet, we’ve also been working closely with our partner foundry to give the 10.5-inch one some spiffy new features (which will also be present on the 12-inch). We’ve already started to roll out these new features, so if you received a skillet from us recently, take a closer look! These features may be right in the palm of your hand.

Casting Date Code

Each of our cast iron skillets now has a date code cast into the underside of the helper handle, so you can see the exact date your prized possession was cast. So if you want to have a birthday party for your skillet every year, go for it… but then maybe try to make some new friends?

Cast Iron Skillet Casting Date Code

Since our cast iron skillet is built to last many lifetimes, this date code adds keepsake value as well. Years from now, when your great-great-great grandchildren are cooking in their kitchen (probably in a colony on Mars or something) they can look at this date code and think of what life must’ve been like WAY back when the skillet was cast… a simpler time…

“Smooth as a Safeway Chicken!” – Cowboy Kent Rollins

How smooth is a Safeway chicken? We have no idea but this is one smooth skillet. We’ve made some changes to both the casting and finishing processes of our skillet to improve the surfaces inside and out:

  • Satin-smooth cooking surface – Our cooking surface now boasts a superior finish for stronger seasoning adherence and less maintenance. You’re already fussy enough, you need a skillet that just gets the job done.
  • Improved exterior finish –  Wait until you get your paws on these. Go ahead, don’t be shy. They are more comfortable in the hand and easier to clean.

See what people are saying about the skillet.

That’s all the news for now. If you have any questions, comments or feedback, feel free to drop us a line in the comments below. Until then, we’ll catch you on the flip side… or whatever it is the kids are saying these days… something about Fortnite or Fidget Spinners or Tide Pods maybe? Anyway, Team Stargazer out ✌️

I just ordered a 10.5 inch skillet on Sunday (order 8573). Am I going to get the new satin finish? ‘Cause I want it. Badly.

  2. James Ling on

can i order a pan with a specific manufactured date stamp? My baby girl was just born on May 5th and I would love to have another of your pans with that particular date stamped.
    Keep up the great work.

James, thanks for your question. Our skillets are not cast every single day, so it’s possible that there may not be a skillet with that date, but we’ll keep an eye out and let you know. Thanks!

  3. Josh Rushing on

I’m interested in giving a skillet as a wedding gift. Is there a way to have their wedding date stamped in, rather than the casting date? If not, this could be a cool idea for unique, personalized gifts!

Thanks for your question and idea, Josh! Unfortunately, we’re not set up to do something like this at the moment, but it’s something we’ll look into for the future. Thanks.

How cool would that be to add a stamped date on the bottom of the pan per a special occasion? Sounds like people would pay extra to an engraved cast iron pan… new FAD here, you should run with it! (smile)

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, we don’t have the capability to do custom dates right now, but it’s something we can consider for the future.

So excited to get my new Stargazer – I’ve watched reviews on YouTube and then placed my order. Cleaned out my frying pan collection and got rid of 3 pans, so thank you for that alone. I love beautiful cookware, and I’m now on the notification list for when your 12-inch pan hits the market.

I love my 10.5″ but using it this morning I realized that I really do need a slightly larger version so I’m eagerly awaiting the announcement of the release of the 12″!

Can I order a pan to be cast on a specific date? I would be willing to pay a premium for this service if necessary. Not that I want to 😉 but I would to ensure a pan cast on a specific date. Danke!

Thanks for your question, Erich! Unfortunately, we don’t have the capability to do custom dates right now, but it’s something we’ll have to look into for the future. Thanks.

Thanks for your question, Benjamin. We don’t have an exact ETA right at this time as we’re still in development, but we’re getting closer! We should be seeing some prototypes soon. Once we have those in hand, we should be able to provide an update regarding timing. If you haven’t already done so, you can sign up for our email list here: https://mailchi.mp/stargazercastiron/12-inch-skillet-launch to be notified of updates for this product. Signing up for this list will enter you in a contest to win one free 12-inch skillet from our first production run! Any additional questions, let us know. Thanks.

Is that possible to make your already wonderful skillets nitrogen heat treated so that to have rust resistant and to be dishwasher safe?
    Thank you!

    Hello –
Great cookware – Any update on lids for these skillets? It’s the only thing keeping them from a permanent spot on our stove!

    • Stargazer Cast Iron on

Thanks! We are currently working on the development of lids for our current (and future size) skillets. We’ll keep everyone posted with updates as we have them. For an immediate solution, there are a few other existing lids on the market right now that would fit our 10.5″ skillet. One we’ve tested is the All-Clad stainless 10-inch lid (which is actually 10.5 inches) and it’s a pretty close fit: https://amzn.com/B00FUF5OIS. Other than that, we recommend a universal lid like one of these: https://amzn.com/B0017U1Q4G or https://amzn.com/B00FZH3WAS. We haven’t tested any other manufacturers for the 12-inch quite yet, but those universal lids should also do a decent job on the 12″.

    Hey guys,
I just received my 12-inch skillet and can’t wait to use it. I ordered my 10″ years ago and love it. I use the crap out of it. I ordered another 12″ for my mom for mother’s day; I am sure she will love it. Just know, (and I am sure that I am not the only one) if you guys design and manufacture a “dutch oven” I will buy one… Get to designing one on CAD (if you already haven’t).
Also, thanks for the military discount; I appreciate it.

    • Lance Chatagnier on

Also, just to mention, Luke responded to my question via email very quickly and professionally. I love buying USA made products and enjoy supporting companies comprised of good people.

      • Stargazer Cast Iron on

Thanks for the feedback and the kind words, Lance! And thank you very much for your service. We are definitely looking to expand our product line, and a Dutch oven is on our list. We’ll keep everyone posted with updates as we have them. Thanks again!

Got my new 12 inch skillet (bare) in the mail last week. Within 15 minutes I had it washed, dried and in the oven to begin the first of four layers of seasoning. It looks real good and works like a champ! It was worth the four month wait. Thanks
